Day three...

Tonight we are in Joplin, Missouri. Joplin is in the southwest part of Missouri and right in the heart of tornado country. We turned the tv on tonight and there was a tornado watch for an area just 40 or 50 miles west of here. We checked with the hotel desk and they said if a tornado is in this are, they call the rooms and have everyone go down to the basement of the building. Just a little excitement! We just missed some bad storms today. We could see the black clouds and feel the strong winds but luckily we missed it all. Today we gained an hour as we moved into the central time zone.

Day Two ....

Today we passed through western West Virginia and into Kentucky. We made it about half way through Kentucky and have stopped in Elizabethtown, KY for the night.

Day One...

When we left Long Lake this morning, it was 25 degrees. We drove approximately 550 miles southwest and the warmest temperature we saw was 46. By the time we reached the Pittsburgh, PA area, most of the leaves were at least partially out on the trees but it was still fairly cold. We made it to Waynesburg, PA (in the far southeast corner of PA) where we will spend the night. Luckily the weather was good today with no rain other than a few sprinkles as we got near Waynesburg, and the traffic wasn't bad either.

One more day....

Long Lake - We woke up to snow on the ground this morning and as of noon, there are still snow flurries in the air which I think makes us all the more anxious to leave. We took Peaches to the kennel and got her all settled in. Jim put the remaining odds and ends in the truck so we are pretty much ready to leave in the morning.

Getting ready...

One week until we leave on our journey west.  It should be exciting as neither of us has ever travelled out west like this before.  There will be lots of new things to see and hopefully we can share some of them with you here.  Click here for a link to a map of our tentative route.
